The Chinese pianist has told German media that he ‘hopes to play’ during the summer of 2018, and that his comeback piece will be Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

Lang Lang, 35, has been out since April this year with left-arm tendonitis. Speculation has begun to surface in Chinese media that he may not fully recover.

It’s Bang Bang. Get it right!

    Richard Clayderbang dear!

We’ve got updates about you more often than even Dudamel. Look the deep down changes in the area đŸ˜‰

  • Minutewaltz says:

Poor fellow – if it’s true that his arm is irreparably damaged. How awful for a virtuoso pianist who has brought so much pleasure to so many to be unable to do the job he loves.
He seems such a positive guy so he’ll probably make the most of it and continue with his teaching, charity work and carrying the torch for classical music, but nonetheless it seems a cruel blow.

  • Petros Linardos says:

No amount of media speculation could have predicted what Leon Fleisher did in the last 50 years.

  • Grainge says:

No, his next album will be “The Piano Book”, a album without classical again, if he can.

  • Stephen Limbaugh says:

I’m wondering if he is actually suffering from depression, or struggling with his sexuality (something China really doesn’t want out there). It’s gone from “sick with the flu” all the time to tendonitis.

    • Sue says:

If what you say is true then it’s doubly troubling for him and we need to extend our compassion. And China shouldn’t be hypocritical – after all this is the society which brought us the ‘one child’ policy in order to reduce population. Right now there are millions and millions of Chinese men who will never have a partner and never be married. If you don’t think that’s going to be a problem into the future think again. China can always put its disaffected people into the army and we need that like a hole in the head!!

  • Alvaro says:

OH LOOK!! A group of crooked lawyers, hedge fund managers and naftaline smelling tonedeaf snobs complaining that a guy who makes his living playing the piano is somehow bad for society bc they dont like how he plays.

    TELL ME MORE!!

  • Ben says:

I wish him well, even though I don’t miss his playing.

  • Angela says:

Maybe like Gary Graffman who was great in his heyday and later taught Lang Lang, he will learn to become a 1 handed pianist .Other pianists also did Wittgenstein etc. He will no doubt teach more master classes too.

  • Vaquero357 says:

Got to agree with the folks expressing sadness at this news. I’m pretty neutral about Lang Lang. He’s not my favorite pianist, but also don’t pass up a chance to hear him play. He’s a showman and probably too extroverted for the staid traditional classical circuit, but the impression I’ve always gotten is that he’s an exuberant guy who really gets a kick out of sharing his exuberant love for music with an audience.

So it’s sad to hear he’s stuck in the sidelines – whatever the reason.

But let’s not write him off. Maybe he just needs time for rest and recovery and his arm will get better. Then there’ll be new Lang Lang performances for his fans to enjoy and his detractors to complain about – and everybody will be happy!
