Anti-Islam protests at Romanian opera house
mainFrom a correspondent:
Five people were arrested in Cluj-Napoca National Opera for disrupting the opening season performance of “The Armed Man- A Mass For Peace” by Karl Jenkins (pictured).
The protest took place during “The Call to Prayers (Adhaan)”. Five members of Noua Dreapta (The New Right Wing) started singing the Romanian National Anthem and shouting “no mosque should be built on Romanian lands” or “Prayers in Arabic language used by Muslim terrorists shan’t be used in a cultural institution”.
Watch:
Respect.
“Where ignorance is bliss tis folly to be wise”.
A great motto for those who issue invitations.
Lest anyone think that this is somehow representative of Romania, Nouă Dreapta (“New Right”) is a tiny, tiny group of people. Their occasional “rallies” are miserable affairs scoffed at by passersby. They have never managed to rise to the relatively minor prominence that the “Old Right” once had, let alone be any significant force in Romanian politics or society.
This stunt may have ruined some people’s evenings, but it is best to think of the perpetrators as our local equivalent of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Also, I’d say the real tragedy here was that Karl Jenkins’ tripe was performed in our opera house.
Noua Dreaptă, rather.
the first in a long European row, apparently …. just my opinion, of course ….
Totally.
What is an opera house doing opening its season with a Mass, and what is a Mass doing starting with Islam’s call to prayer?
Try Les Huguenots. That is the cost of “diversity.”
It’s a great score, but you missed the point.
indeed, they’re already short of money and than they have to put up with this kind of noise???? And why glorify a religion of hate??
Religion of hate? You think what the haters spout in the name of Allah is really the essence of Islam? You haven’t read the Quran, have you? Nor, indeed, have you read the Bible or noted the atrocious blether of such upstanding Christians as the Rev. Franklin Graham, son of Billy, et al. Still, you just carry ‘onward Christian soldier, marching as to war’. We haven’t had a nice Crusade since 1272, the ninth, so why don’t you organize No. 10, found a Crusader state, and go live there. Please.
Many years ago radio DJ David Jacobs played a lovely piece of music which started with the Muslim call to prayer and slowly transmogrified in to something Christian. Sadly I can’t remember what it was but he was making a beautiful point, and it worked seamlessly.

Interesting but it wasn’t that it was a classical piece and quite lovely.
I wonder if perhaps if was indeed Jenkins’ Armed Man. It was written in 1991 and David Jacobs didn’t retire from broadcasting until the year of his death, 2013, at age 87. Given his wonderful nature and character, I think it might well be a work that appealed to him. The Call to Worship is the first vocal part of the work and followed by the Kyrie of the Catholic mass.
The last thing I’d want is to sympathise politically with these people. However, at least they would have curtailed the performance of this dreck. For that we should be grateful.
Um . . . remnants of the interbellum far right vs. glorifiers of the Defiler of Aisha “Prophet” and his demented religion . . . to channel Kissinger, too bad they cannot both lose.
