Death of a non-musical Casadesus
mainThe actor Gisèle Casadesus, member of the Comédie Francaise since 1934, has died in Paris at the age of 103.
Daughter of the conductor Henri Casadesus and the harpist Marie-Louise Beetz, she was the mother of the conductor Jean-Claude Casadesus and three other artists. Music, she once said, was the family language.
If I’m not mistaken wasn’t Henri also a violist with the Capet Quartet and composer (like his brother) of works attributed to composers of yesteryear, like Handel and C.P.E. Bach?
Not mentioned was that Gisele was the cousin of one of the greatest of French pianists, Robert Casadesus.
Surely the actor is Gérard Depardieu??
The other actor, you mean? Yes, and your point would be…?
The point should be “actress” rather than “actor”…Cos the first thing we see is Depardieu.
Ah, yes, silly me – it should not surprise me if on this forum we still use aviatrix, manageress and the like, and take our concert programmes from usherettes.
And why not? Equal pay and opportunities for women, without a doubt, but masculine terms, that is absurd unless we ban all female names such as Margaret or Sylvia.
If I am not mistaken, too, along Haendel and C. P. E. Bach, as quoted by Dan P., Henri is also falsely responsible for the violin concerto Adelaïde by Mozart (K. Anh. 294a, ultimately K. Anh.C 14.05), that was really “composed” by Henri’s brother : Marius (1892-1981), while some people were inclined to suppose a pastiche by…. Kreisler!…Let’s be confident in the charms and the rigor of philology! ….
Why was not a full obit printed? She deserves it. And a Casadesus family tree is always helpful, as there were so many stars in the family.
