The Semper Oper achieved almost 91 percent occupancy over the season just ended, across opera, ballet and concerts. The season included nine new productions.

Interesting that this piece of news came in the same day with the one about the drop in attendance of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Should however point out that Semperoper capacity is about 1300 seats, while that of Heinz Hall is about 2600 seats. And that the population of Dresden is over almost 530,000, while that of Pittsburgh is almost 306,000.

On the other hand Dresden does have two major orchestras, one doubling as the orchestra of Semperoper. And there are more musical events in Dresden than Pittsburgh.

Just to compare apples to apples.

I don’t have figures, but Semper Oper is very popular with tourist groups. It’s quite usual to book an all inclusive package like 3 days Dresden or 1 week Saxony which includes one night at Semper Oper.
