The maestro is throwing open his opera rehearsals at Ravenna next month. He aims to teach ‘the Italian tradition’ to budding conductors, repetiteurs and singers, and wants the audience to appreciate the difference.

He says so on the video, below.

The Italian tradition is best portrayed by the great Fellini : For those that can’t make it
to Ravenna watch the Fellini “Orchestra Rehearsal “… on you tube no less .From my
experience it covers the Italian music tradition quite thoroughly .

  • Peter says:

“I’m not a product of the emblazoned, high sounding, arrogant(?) school north of the Alps.”

Wow, someone is bitter about the cultural failure of the last decades in his country of birth. What an ugly stab at those, who nurtured his carreer.

    • Olassus says:

No! He is not insulting the Northern European schools and does not use the word arrogant. He simply stresses the singularity of the Italian approach — and rightly so!

      • Peter says:

“Emblazoned, high sounding” is still pretty insulting in my book and a completely unnecessary remark if you want to praise the Italian system, whatever that is.
What is the singularity of the Italian approach, I’m honestly curious because I don’t know?
