Hope he will not fall ill
It will be a memorable evening. King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima (the queen is patron of the orchestra) decided to return earlier from an official visit in Germany to honour the much beloved conductor. Recently, billboards all over Amsterdam thanked Jansons for his work in Amsterdam. Hundreds of musicians, colleagues and concertgoers of the Concertgebouw contributed to a liber amicorum. That is how you thank a great conductor!
Yesterday, Jansons told Dutch paper NRC Handelsblad that he regrets very much to leave Amsterdam. “Actually, there is no reason to leave now. [..] After two medical treatments I feel as reborn. [..] It is very doubtful that – if I had to take the decision again – I would take it.”[..] The fact was: I could not leave Munich. We fought for a new, good concert hall and I was leading that battle.”

Amsterdam lost Jansons, Munich its concert hall….
We are looking forward to June 2016. Jansons will conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in nine performances’ of Pique Dame at the Dutch National Opera.
Maestro, thank you for 11 wonderful years! We admire you as a conductor, but love you as such a modest, kind and generous human being.
