Vienna University opens formal investigation into Bogdan Roscic
mainThe incoming director of the Vienna State Opera has been accused of plagiarising parts of his dissertation – quoting from another man’s work without attribution.
The University announced today that has appointed an external expert to look into the matter. Results will be published in October.
Roscic has promised to cooperate.
There are probably more doctoral thesis’ out there that contain parts that are plagiarized (not quoted according to the rules) than ones that are clean.
It seems to be the tool of choice these days to fell opponents with academic backgrounds. Who are the individuals who actually check these things proactively? They act on who’s behalf? It requires quite some effort and time.
Everybody who is appointed on a conspicuous position invites scrutiny.
Yes, but what makes these cases – there are numerous these days where figures of prominence are felled with this pattern – disgusting, is their dark ages type, driven by (in fact) anonymous allegations. Rule of law requires for the accuser to come forward openly and state his motives. The way these kind of investigations start though, anonymous sources tipping off some journalists or authorities, it reminds of darker times of history.
Back to the dark ages apparently.
Cui bono? ÖVP? Wiener Intrigantenstadl?
Sorry, I meant to write “FPÖ?”
Borstlap – you’re so right..whether the subjects like it or not.
If you put yourself out there, you’ve got to be clean or so powerfully corrupt that no-one can find out!
