New York Phil recruits ex-San Fran v-p
mainThe orchestra has taken on an Interim Director of Artistic Planning to cover for Ed Yim, who has quit along with several others.
The new acting v-p is Gregg Gleaser, Director of Artistic Planning for the San Francisco Symphony from 1991-2011, and since then master of his own business, GleasnerMusic, which offers ‘leadership and guidance to orchestras, festivals, and performing arts organizations’.
The NY Phil sure need a lot of leadership and guidance, and fast.
Truly one of the most unpleasant characters in the symphony business. The language that spews from his mouth in defense of his awful ideas and opinions would land him on the street in a well run business. Bad choice by a rudderless organization.
What are those awful ideas and opinions? And why are those ideas and opinions so in demand that this man even set-up a company to offer them? It is easy to talk bad about a professional, but more difficult to come-up with evidence.
The evidence is experiential. Ask around. And anyone can set up a company. It’s a matter of filing the paper work.
Gregg Gleasner (with an ‘n’) is a veteran in the symphony orchestra world–and had been an artist manager as well. Although we never worked together, his name has resonated for several decades. He will certainly be of positive service to the NYP.
