Norman, the (ironical) phrase or rather hashtag is #DespiteBrexit – do get with!
I would not trust KD Schmidt. Years ago, I heard from reliable sources that staff working in Germany was regularly put under great pressure to get a certain number of minimum engagements for their artists per month, and if they did not meet them, their job got in jeopardi. If you know about all the hazardous parameters of music life, full of unforeseen complications, this is of course an absurd requirement which creates not only extra pressures upon an already stressful work environment, but invites rivalry among staff (which is bad for the work place) and making wrong decisions for the performers. In the eighties I worked for a short time for a branch in Amsterdam related to this agency and, to put it mildly, it had something of a psychiatric asylum and a smugglers’ nest where the fees for performers were not quite safe.
This is hearsay, probably untrue. Today the company functions responsibly on the world stage.
Then that’s quite a change and good news. But the information mentioned was first-hand.
