Another example of male midlife crisis creating havoc? I thought Sir Bryn was smarter than that…poor kids (all 4 of them).
No doubt many people’s poor choices create havoc on children. That said, are you sure you know enough to judge Terfel’s private life?
Please do remember that his first marriage ended when his wife left him for a man 20 years her junior (who himself had a child from a previous relationship). Since then, he has been unfailingly kind in any comments he has made about his first wife and about their marriage. His financial support for his children and for his former wife has reportedly been extremely generous, running to several millions of pounds. It is reported that he has never contested that his former wife should continue to live, at his expense, in the house which was their family home during the marriage. It has also been reported that he continues to spend a generous amount of time with his children. Of course, he maintains an international career as an opera singer, which means that he is frequently away from home. That, however, is the case for all successful musicians of his calibre. Perhaps you would argue that musicians who pursue international careers as soloists, conductors, or chamber musicians should never have children. Amid great publicity, Bryn Terfel did cancel important engagements in order to be at home when one of his children underwent a surgical procedure. You may like to argue that nobody should attempt to combine a top-level career as a performing artist with family life, but that is not a question about Bryn Terfel’s alleged midlife crisis: it’s a question that affects every musician in the world who attempts to combine a busy international schedule with family life.
I don’t know the details of when or why Ms Stone’s marriage to her former husband came to an end, and I suspect that very few people do. That, however, has nothing to do with Sir Bryn’s abilities as a father. Everything I have ever read about him suggests that he is a decent, honourable man who has done the very best that he could do for his children.
Out of curiosity, what do you think about Angela Gheorghiu’s relationship with Mihai Ciortea? Is that a female midlife crisis, or just two people who are fortunate enough to be happy together?
In other words, Lilo: no need to be such a bitch 🙂
I don’t think it’s any of our business one way or another, to be honest.
I love to hear Bryn sing and travel to see him as often as I can but this does not give me the right to make unfounded comments on his private life!
One of the kindest comments I have seen on the internet!! Thanks for renewing my faith in human nature…. 🙂
Thank you for posting your opinion, which I completely echo. I, too, have heard Sir Bryn sing opera and recitals in many different cities and feel my relationship with him is — he sings and I gladly listen.
ja, wo die Liebe hinfällt. Ich wünsche beiden eine glückliche Zukunft.
