International pianist mourns banker husband
UncategorizedPaloma O’Shea, founder of the Queen Sofia School in Madrid and a piano competition in her name, has sadly lost her husband, Emilio Botin. He was head of the global Santander banking group.
Emilio suffered a heart attack, aged 79. Our sympathies to Paloma, her six children and the school.
Losing one’s father/husband is always very sad, but my sympathies for someone who, as the patriarch of Spain’s largest bank, is responsible for thousands (or even more) of families falling into poverty and having to leave their homes after the burst of the Spanish property bubble (and for more than one tragic suicide) are, err, limited.
