Just in: A Swedish orchestra is suspended
mainThe board of the Camerata Nordica, based in Oskarshamn, Sweden, has cancelled the rest of the season and announced the resignation of artistic director Terje Tonessen. The reason given is ‘unstable finances’.
That’s the official side of things.
Unofficially, players tell us that nobody on the board or in the management could be bothered to reply to emails from Terje Tonessen for the past six months.
The musicians, who make recordings for the Bis label, are keen to continue. They want an investigation into the board’s use or misuse of public funds.
It’s a very theatrical ensemble, this might be a PR move. If not, not much of a loss to be honest.
On what planet is the collapse of a 42 years old ensemble a PR move? Don’t be so offensive, their are musicians lives at stake here.
Sorry Stamlit but their lives aren’t at stake. People in Syria, North Korea, THEIR lives are at stake. At best, these musicians will lose 1 source of income (and I imagine many already teach or play in other formations) and therefore this will just be an inconvenience, until they regroup or join other orchestras, it’s not the end of the world.
What does than even mean? Dont talk bullshit …you clearly have no idea.
Listen to their CDs and tell me if they are really a loss…or just go back to your ignorant life 🙂

Appalling treatment of these very fine musicians !
