Anyone who believes that Rupert Murdoch will be moving out of newspaper and media in order to say relentless sorries for a couple of weeks, then to pursue a new hobby of bowls and to wait in his bedroom slippers for Countdown on tv is profoundly wrong. He admits that mistakes were made, which they definitely were. He and his colleagues will learn from these errors because they are professionals, which others in Westminster and especially Scotland Yard probably will not and are not. Rubbing R.M.’s nose in it endlessly is counter-productive at this stage. For me the Metropolitan Police comes out of this mess far more damaged than News Corp, with our politicians a close second.
