Breaking: Carnegie Hall reopens after threat from dangling crane
mainWest 57th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues was closed this morning after a tower crane hoisting a load got stuck. A large, yellow box dangled 20 stories above the street.
It wass the same crane (below) that paralysed the area for several days during Hurricane Sandy last November. The second breakdown came during a tornado watch and a high-wind forecast.
Video report here. By mid-afternoon, the crane was made safe and the street reopened.
The good news is that it will not disrupt the Opening Night performance; the stagehands already took care of that.
For what it’s worth, this photo is from the previous crane emergency, and there’s no confirmation that it is dangling….just that it malfunctioned and became stuck while lifting a load.
