It takes years for the conducting to catch up with the musicianship. Someday she’ll look at this and cringe.
Or in some cases, for the musicianship to catch up to the conducting…
And sometimes, this doesn’t even ever happen.
God I love Barbara Hannigan.
I find it quite cool how she’s become the “singing conductor.” Are there other historic examples of this or is she the first?
Richard Tauber and Tito Schipa tried it.
Yes lots of them in the ol’ days. What’s old is new again, just like electric cars and Artificial Intelligence.
Excellent headline!
It’s great fun. She’s obviously having a ball, so is the audience. I’d like to think that Gershwin, himself, would have approved!
She’s a terrific singer and a mediocre conductor. I also wish to see conductors who lead orchestras in full dress to at least make an effort. She was in street attire.
She’s wonderful. And easy on the eyes.
Her attire is not distracting. Isn’t that the only important criterion?
I don’t understand how she can properly cue musicians when facing the audience. Can orchestral musicians please weigh in?
