Violinist becomes Salzburg’s concert chief

The Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid has been appointed artistic director of the Salzburg Cultural Association.

The association is responsible for concerts given in the town’s main halls outside of festival time.

Schmid, 55, is also artistic director of the Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra in Sweden.

    good luck to him! I only hope he’ll be really independent when he’ll make the artistic choices, in an ideal world he should not invite artists or ensemble/orchestras from the agency that represent him, to avoid any conflict of interest and put Salzburg Cultural Association under bad light.

    Great choice. He is wonderful musician, performing all kinds of music – from Bach and Mozart till Ligeti and Lutosławski – on highest level. Plus he is excellent jazz violinist!
