Sudden death of Vienna Opera conductor
RIPThe MusikTheater an der Wien has just announced the death of the German conductor Michael Boder, who was working on an Arnold Schoenberg project titled ‘Friday the 13th’.
Boder, who was 65, had a passion for difficult pieces. In almost 200 appearances at the Vienna Staatstoper, he conducted world premieres of Friedrich Cerha’s Der Riese vom Steinfeld” and Aribert Reimann’s Medea. At the Theater an der Wien he presided over Anno Schreier’s Hamlet and Christian Jost’s Egmont.
In a richly varied career he was music director in Basle, Barcelona and Copenhagen and a much-sought afte guest conductor.
The cause of death is unknown.
R.I.P.
A kind person and a serious, no-frills conductor. RIP
