Maternity leave for Edinburgh Festival chief
NewsNicola Benedetti is conducting a round of press events in flat shoes before announcing the full Ed Fest programme next week.
The flat shoes, with a tiger design, are because she is well advanced to having a baby – in May, we hear.
That should just about give her enough maternity leave before the festival gets cracking on August 2.
All good wishes for the coming events.

It’s not for men to decide how long is appropriate for a woman to take off on maternity leave.
He hasn’t decided it. He has expressed an opinion on the point, perhaps developed on the basis of general knowledge of what is customary in this matter. I can’t see that he has refused to revise his opinion, if appropriately advised.
She has stated her commitment to directing the next festival, so surely it is reasonable to think in terms of a practical return to work date. Your comment smacks of what we call in Scotland “a nippy sweetie”: over sensitive, pointlessly aggressive and adversarial by inclination.
I think Slipped Disc was referring to legally required maternity leave. In the US it is 12 weeks. In the UK ii is 52 weeks depending on eligibility. Paternity leave is also available.
It’s hard to makes sense of how Slipped Disc covers news of a personal nature sometimes. You’ll get reports on a musician having a child or being engaged, but if a commenter dares to ask a totally innocuous question about that artist’s family life (husband, wife, significant other?), it doesn’t get through the screening process. I’m guessing it either has to do with UK libel laws (though there’s nothing slanderous being asked) or the terms laid out by a PR in leaking the original story.
Have you considered anger management?
52 weeks is not a requirement.
