LSO lands Dudamel tour
OrchestrasSpanish media are reporting a forthcoming 2025 tour by the London Symphony Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel to Barcelona. They will appear at both the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
The LSO works hard to maintain its status as London’s swagger orchestra.
Dudamel has lived for some years in Barcelona and may wish to show off to his neighbourhood.
LA Times, El País, and US News report that Dudamel lives (partially) in Madrid, not in Barcelona.
Self appointed status?
The LPO is at least as good.
Status has been given by Mr Lebrecht in this case. But no. This days LPO is not as good as the symphony.
It’s an old photo. Dudamel has since lost the belly and some of that the big (mostly gray) hair.
Gustavo lives in Madrid, not Barcelona.
Does he have any relationship with the LSO? Wouldn’t it make more sense to tour there with the LA Phil? Shouldn’t they be making a triumphant tour to mark the end of his tenure there?

This is correct: GD and “his” (still) LA Phil are indeed performing not one or two but three (3) concerts in Barcelona just two months from now – at the beginning of their Western European tour in late May of this year (2024, that is).
