In a rare move against the current trend, a leading soloist has left boutique management for a garage agency.

Yesterday, the Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki handed in his cards at Tanja Dorn’s boutique and signed on with K D Schmid.

More remarkable is that he did so on the eve of his Carnegie Hall debut this week.

    Garage Agency…??
Bronfman, Buniatishvili, Hadelich, Hahn, Hardenberger, YoYo Ma, Perahia, Say, Sokolov, Tetzlaff, Hampson, Adam Fischer, Nelsons, Saraste, King’s Singers…..
    …or maybe you mean the Gates-Garage phenomenon…..

    Good luck with KD Schmid.
What a unnecessary step to slow down your carrier.

I’m not sure it really matters who his agents are. Maybe for his own personal and financial issues. But this young man is the real deal. I just heard him for the first time live (and hopefully not the last). I traveled especially to Dallas for this, and don’t regret it. Wow! What an artist!

Managers are important I suppose, but ultimately they’re like makeup. A truly beautiful person will look beautiful even with bad makeup, or none at all, and the ones really needing it are those not really beautiful. A great artist (and there are so very few of them) is a great artist, and true art lovers will line up to listen to him or her, no matter who their agent is.
