Amazing musician. In 1983, at the age of 22, he became the only musician to win Grammy Awards in jazz and classical music during the same year. The next year, he won again in both categories.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Yes, and apparently his father Ellis said to him afterwards, “don’t think this makes you an excellent musician”!! Always raising the bar, was Ellis.

  • Mr. Ron says:

It’s unclear from the recording who said “get more hair on your sound”. It was a black man and not Krauss. It’s also unclear when this was said. In other words, the quotation is little more than a hook.

    • Larry W says:

It was said to Wynton by Harry “Sweets” Edison, an iconic jazz trumpeter and a member of the Count Basie Orchestra. He is one of the few players in the history of jazz trumpet who could be instantly identified after only a few notes. His most important contribution was as a Hollywood studio musician, whose muted trumpet can be heard backing singers, most notably Frank Sinatra.
It is history, not a hook.

    What a wonderful conversation.

  • RPMS says:

    ‘Bellieve it’?

Benefit of the doubt: let’s presume this is a trumpet pun.
