The international opera singer Alexandru Moisiuc has died at an early age.

He sang at La Scala, Vienna, Dresden, Frankfurt and Brussels and was an esteemed teacher for 35 years in Bucharest.

UPDATE from the Vienna State Opera: The Vienna State Opera mourns the loss of its long-standing, valued ensemble member Alexandru Moisiuc, who died today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in Timişoara, Romania.

The Romanian-born bass sang over 60 different roles at the Vienna State Opera, where he found his artistic home, and was heard in over 600 performances in both the classical repertoire and contemporary operas. He last appeared on the State Opera stage on March 2, 2020 as Uncle Bonze in Madama Butterfly

    This is sad news indeed. Alexandru Moisiuc was a stalwart on the stage of the Vienna State Opera in a wide variety of comprimario roles such as the Sacristan in Puccini’s Tosca, and also in some principal roles such as the Grand Inquisitor in Verdi’s Don Carlo. May he rest in peace.
