  • Serge Bernard says:

It’s interesting, that when you have been together with such a marvellous conductor for so long time, you manage to pick up absolutely nothing…

    • perturbo says:

You cannot learn conducting by having a romantic relationship with a conductor.

      • Petros LInardos says:

Moreover, if one could learn the trade by simply playing with great conductors, then many great soloists would have successfully made the transition. Very few have.

      • Serge Bernard says:

You should be able to learn more than waving your left hand helplessly in the air.

    • Homework says:

The orchestra seem to like her. She has worked with most of the best conductors of our time. In this clip, at least, she is conducting from the piano, which is different in any case. But I did not see the rest of this concert.

    • waw says:

Right? How is it possible that HE still can’t play a piano concerto?

  • GuestX says:

Yuja Wang is directing, not conducting – just as Beethoven will have directed from the piano when he was playing his piano concertos. Stravinsky’s concerto is neo-classical, so this is entirely suitable. The announcement of the concert says that the programme will be performed entirely without a conductor. Snide comments about Wang’s relationship with Mäkelä are irrelevant.

  • Patrick says:

Amazing! Difficult with a conductor. Almost inconceivable without a conductor.

  • Guest Conductor says:

    On the job training.

  • Margaret Koscielny says:

Cheer up! It’s the Year of the Dragon.
Yuga has fire in her veins!

  • Jonathan Z says:

Is Yuja left handed? There must be many conductors who are but I can only think of one – Paavo Berglund – who conducted with his left hand as she does here.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Wow! Is there anything this woman can’t do? Why does she cheapen her excellent brand with ‘raunch’ fashion?

    • Petros Linardos says:

The question in my mind is why the mdia and so many blogs focus on her wardrobe, and not on her considerable artistry.

    • Shh says:

I think she’s fun. Yuja is amazing and can wear whatever she wants. She’s a rockstar and has all the skill needed to back up whatever wardrobe she has. Unlike some performers who just show some skin but there’s not much else worth listening to.

  • ParallelFifths says:

Her conducting is much better than his pianism.

  • GuestX says:

The video of the Stravinsky has been taken down, but there is still one where she directs the original Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue for piano and jazz band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFzDIm_z3pQ Those who enjoy rubbishing her conducting skills can still have a go at this.

  • ParallelFifths says:

The OP post may have been yanked, but still available on the ‘tube is one from January 20, 2024 of Yuja with Philharmonie de Paris–Stravinsky “Concerto pour piano et instruments a vent.” Can’t tell if she’s purportedly conducting in this one, but it’s nice.
