Although not part of the programme and not formally invited, Anna Netrebko showed up last night at the Vienna Opera Ball.

This morning’s press is in titters over whether she wore anything beneath a Charlize Theron-style pearly top.

  • Potpourri says:

For those who don’t speak German, the article says “The black skirt of her Givenchy gown was connected to a pearl top that made it appear as if Netrebko was naked underneath.Only a thin nude-colored fabric was sewn under the pearls.”

    • Carl says:

That might have worked for the young Netrebko but in 2024…? At least she didn’t show up in blackface or draped in a Russian flag, I guess.

  • Yuri K says:

Well, at least, “She had tied her long, dark hair back into an elegant ponytail.”

  • V.Lind says:

Who says she was not “formally invited”? I would have thought that was a hard party to crash. Though having just seen Episode 3 of Capote vs. The Swans — the Black and White Ball one — I can see it is possible.

  • Wiener says:

    Nebbich

  • Sherm says:

Not clear on the concept. Am I sposta not like her now?

  • Inaustria says:

All you need to attend the Openball is a ticket : no one “invites” you, unless they have an extra ticket. Very often singers do in fact get free tickets: it’s not as big a deal as written here, she didn’t crash a party . And concerning her gown: it doesn’t look as if “anything” is showing that isn’t supposed to be there. I’m neither a fan nor do I dislike her, but sensationalism isn’t warrented here. She had a night out along with 3000 other people.
