Maestros and their motor cars (41): Nellie Melba’s Uber
OperaThe Australian diva owned numerous cars – a Rolls Royce, Pierce-Arrow, Renault, Fiat and a Cadillac.
But she preferred to be driven.
This photo was taken in London in the first years of the 20th century.
Enough. Zero comments so others agree.
Well speaking as an old-car buff (as well as being old and a car buff) I don’t mind NL’s excuse to find and publish these interesting vintage photographs. And other commenters have done a good job of identifying the cars so I must not be the only one who thinks like this.
It is perhaps a very slender excuse to run them, but I find them fun to look at even if there isn’t much to be said about them in the comment section.
I wonder how many people who have eaten Melba toast, or enjoyed a Pêche Melba, have any idea why it’s called that, since they surely don’t have much in common from a calorie standpoint.
“Don’t serve me this effete opera singer food! Give me a real, solid American dinner, like Turkey Tetrazzini!”
