We hear that the reason Markus Poschner is leaving the Bruckner orchestra in Linz in the composer’s bicentennial year is that he is about to be named Marin Alsop’s successor at the ORF orchestra in Vienna.

The orchestra manager has referred his appoinment to the radio board for ratification.

Also on the cards: we hear Jaap Van Zweden has landed another well-paid job.

Your opening sentence doesn’t make sense. This year, 2024, is Bruckner’s bicentenary year. Although Poschner’s departure was announced this week, he isn’t actually leaving until 2027. There usually is a couple of seasons’ notice given when a fellow maestro departs! It could be argued it is unfortunate timing that his departure was announced in such a significant year, however Poschner remains with this orchestra until 2027 which is wonderful news.
