Longtime patrons Myrna and Jim Spira have chipped in $4.6 million towards artistic programming, pension fund, and annual fund. They will also name the Myrna and Jim Spira Bass Clarinet Chair, currently held by Amy Zoloto.

Spira has two favourite sayings:
Victor Hugo: Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
Alphonse de Lamartine: Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.
