Cleveland Orchestra lands $4.6 million gift
OrchestrasLongtime patrons Myrna and Jim Spira have chipped in $4.6 million towards artistic programming, pension fund, and annual fund. They will also name the Myrna and Jim Spira Bass Clarinet Chair, currently held by Amy Zoloto.
Spira has two favourite sayings:
Victor Hugo: Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
Alphonse de Lamartine: Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.
Bravo to both of them!
Which Spira chose those sayings?
Good catch!
Thank goodness for generous, wealthy patrons who love classical music and TCO.
Wonderful. As someone who always hears the Cleveland when they come to NY I am very happy to hear this.
The people of Cleveland are why they have a superb orchestra. Contrast with Birmingham, UK.
Cleveland USA perhaps, but not the original and ancient Cleveland in the UK. Quite the opposite.
Two Words: World Class.
Generous gift! TCO is fortunate to have such patrons.
Glad to see part of their gift directed towards pension funds! Very generous!
