The Berlin Philharmonic foundation has renewed Andrea Zietzschmann as general manager until 2028.

Andrea, 53, took charge in 2017 after managing the Mahler Chamber Orchestra for Claudio Abbado, followed by the radio orchestras of Frankfurt and Hamburg. She was appointed in Berlin two years before Kirill Petrenko’s arrival as chief conductor and has steered the great ship of state with scarcely any turbulence.

The best ones are those we never hear about.

    • Sisko24 says:

She would appear to be THAT GOOD. So the big question is: are there many others out there like her and how can we get them?

  • Ernie says:

The Berlin Phil is self-governing, so I would guess that the “Boss” only needs to stay out of the way.

    • Galina says:

Zietzschmann is not one to “stay out of the way”. She has great input and is very good at working behind the scenes. Something I also admire: She, first and foremost, seems to be a lover of music. She is one of the few general managers in Berlin that goes to virtually any concert at the Philharmonie (often the same one three nights in a row), whether it be concert by the Philharmoniker or guest concerts organised by the Philharmonie.
