ASCAP leader dies
RIPThe The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers reports the death of Frances Richard, its influential former v-p. A cellist by vocation, she worked previously with Henry Fonda as as Executive Director of the National Council for Arts and Education.
Here’s a lovely tribute:
Aleksandra Vrebalov: I am one of the many composers who, as Tim Page said, were both nurtured and rescued by Fran. We met in the 90s through my teacher Elinor Armer, and thanks to these two giants, I joined the ASCAP family. As an immigrant, female composer landing in the city, I was lucky to always feel that Fran was looking after me. Just riding that elevator at One Lincoln Plaza on the way to her, knowing that she would close her office door and hear me out, was healing. Being in her presence made me feel stronger and at home. RIP dearest Fran, I will always be grateful for all you have given me. If there was ever a matriarch, you were the one.
