Putin sends Bolshoi to Phuket
OperaThe Russian President is sending the Bolshoi Theatre to Thailand in a bid to break Russia’s cultural isolation and revive V alery Gergiev’s international profile.
The presidential order said: ‘The Ministry of Culture of Russia, together with the Ministry of Finance of Russia, will provide assistance to the federal state budgetary cultural institution State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia in organizing and conducting tours in the Kingdom of Thailand.’
It reads as though a deal has already been done with Bangkok.
Ukrainians will probably mutter ‘Phuket’ (pictured).
Maybe the Bolshoi should do a joint tour with The Israel Philharmonic. The no one wants us tour.
You mean the Palestinian Orchestra? According to Riccardo Muti that’s what the name should be.
I suspect the suggestion of Phuket is totally wrong as there is no venue unless they perform on a beach. Far more likely they will be performing in Bangkok at the Thailand Cultural
Centre.
I think the use of Phuket in the headline refers to the common mispronunciation in English..SD has a sense of humor.
