Punch-ups at La Scala over French Medea
OperaThe return to La Scala of Cherubini’s Medea last night provoked unexpected violence. Partisans and disappointed patrons were seen slugging it out beneath the famous arcades, an eruption of emotions that veteran observers have not seen for years.
Reactions online have yet to heat up to quite the same level.

This is a gross exaggeration… I was there: while the staging was definitely and loudly booed by a good portion of the audience, I would not use the word “violence”. Kudos to Rebeka for turning a potentially threatening evening (Callas’s ghost is still looming over the title role) into a personal triumph!
I have no idea what you’re talking about or what the ruckus was over.
