El Sistema extends a tentacle to Sweden

Orchestras

CNN has a glowing report about an orchestra of Syrian and Afghan refugees, most without instrumental experience, who are finding new hope in Sweden.

This sounds like a wonderful initiative. You can read about it here.

The only problem is that it is affiliated to the discredited El Sistema system of the Venezuelan regime, which is allied to monsters in Moscow and Tehran.

UPDATE: The Gothenburg Symphony inform us that Alvarez is no longer directing El Sistema Sweden. He works for the Gothenburg Symphony as the artistic director of a summer music program.

The so called “monster’s” are teaching the “good guys” how to be successful in music education. Thats why this boogey man mentality is outdated.

  • Tony B says:

I read the article by cnn. As I understand the affiliation with the conductor who came from El Sistema is pretty flimsy i’d say. He is working with other orchestras. So I feel like your title is frankly overly dramatic and basically click bate. Also let’s not forget that this dream orchestra; as they have named themselves, is giving hope and a sense of community to young people who have have been displaced from there own communities. The nearly non-existent ties to Putin And company is not important in the least. Do better Norman!!

  • Herr Forkenspoon says:

If one reads the whole story, you’ll get a more accurate picture of what’s going on and it isn’t as nefarious as Norman aludes to.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

Sometimes it’s horrible to see (hear?) what some people do with taxpayer’s money here in Sweden.

  • V.Lind says:

Is El Sistema “allied to monsters in Moscow and Tehran”?
