The troubled theatre at Erfurt, where they are presently rehearsing Rusalka, has been relieved of its general and artistic director.

Generalintendant Guy Montavon has been placed on immediate leave for a minimum of three weeks.

His suspension comes against a background of allegations of sexual and power abuses.

The theatre’s administrative director, Angela Klepp-Pallas, has also been placed on leave.

The music director Alexander Prior has announced his departure.

The city has set up an inquiry. Montavon says: ‘A thorough, professional explanation is absolutely important. However, it is also very sensitive, which is why I ask for prudence.’

    Whoa! What a mess!

  • Beobachterin says:

When the allegations about Herr Montavon and the power-abuses in that house are the true information, maybe it explains the reason why the conductor Herr Prior, and maybe also quite many of singers have been looking for any possibility to run far from that house. That is for sure what I have heard. After the Pandemie more and more people do not accept mobbing.

  • Just Another Conductor says:

What a mess indeed… sure clarifies Alexander Prior’s decision. Good for him getting out of there before things went south.
