In a new extended interview, the pianist Krystian Zimerman talks about his lifelong involvement with the music of Karol Szymanowski. He has a theory that the depression that befell the composer after completing his Variations was related to his acknowledgement of homosexuality and the struggle that he faced in his Polish homeland.

  • Chris says:

“that he is maybe a little bit different than the “normal” people”??? “the problem”?? So he was not “normal”???? Come on, don’t be so derogatory: He was homosexual (like many other great composers) and THE SOCIETY had a problem with that.

    • Michael says:

You really have to be a hypersensitive idiot to hear any homophobia in this sincere and empathetic interview.

    • Baffled in Buffalo says:

Zimerman makes dramatic dancing air quotes with his fingers when he says “normal”. I’d think that would be enough.
