The classical listening site Idagio has counted clicks on all the year’s new releases and come up with … Yuja Wang playing Rachmaninov.

But not the 2nd or 3rd concertos, or even the Pag Variations. It’s the first concerto that captured the imagination.

The Idagio list is otherwise reassuringly mainstream. Vikingur gets in at #7. Quiet a few entrants areĀ  by lesser-known artists.

Rach 1 is a bit of a rare bird.

  • HSY says:

The best recordings of that Rachmaninoff set are the 3rd and the 4th, in my opinion. The rest is also great, but these two really stand out. The amazing LA Phil played no small role, especially in the 4th.

An entertainer skating on surfaces of the masterpieces and catering to the crowd. Sympathies to Rachmaninov…

Vikingur is at number 9 when I look?

  • Philip Weidenborner says:

She really is incredibly talented, and the personality is so modern and dynamic

  • Mecky Messer says:

This industry has become so obvlivious it not only creates its own channels to feed its hyperbolic sense of importance, now they give themselves awards.

    Its sad, but not surprising.

There is one allegro con brio – everything else is andante and downwards. Why?
