Lenka was an authority on music in central Europe in the 15th century, specialising in cantus fractus and late medieval polyphony. She leaves two school-age sons.

A shocking event for that part of the world. In the USA these preventable tragedies happen all the time and the population and politicians have become desensitized to the point of paralysis. Bottom line is there are too many firearms of all kinds in people’s possession. That needs to end or highly strict measures put in place. Then there is the vast number of unregistered, illegal weapons. Imagine if instead of weapons it were violins or pianos or cellos or clarinets or ….

How did this pivot to the US?
Bottom line is that gun ownership is a right in the US, not a privilege. I agree there are far too many guns in the hands of people who should not have guns (felons, non-residents).

  • Ernest Blanc says:

This what the Islam does to the world. Only death and grieving. [redacted: criminal offence]

    • Bill says:

Yeah, the Christians, Jews, etc. never do anything like that, right?

    • Hugo Preuß says:

There is zero evidence that this has anything whatsoever to do with Islam. The Prague police has confirmed that the shooter was Czech and was named David – not exactly a Muslim name.

The Czech Republic has – by European standards – fairly lax gun laws. And we all know how in the US (Second Amendment) and elsewhere lax gun laws are championed by Muslims and left wingers, right?

    • Fernando Noronha says:

You seem to confuse Islam with oil

    • Jonathan says:

Please explain your comment. What does this shocking and tragic event have to do with Islam?

    • Mr. Ron says:

It may be unfair to lay this tragedy upon Islam, but I do not know the background to this tragedy.

However, it is true that Islam, in my opinion, is a violent, self-righteous religion. The first sentence of the Koran is all wrong: “there is but one God and his name is Allah.” Read the Koran and count the stonings in it. There are many and it does condone violence, misogyny and fans hatred to outsiders. It is not a great incentive to peace, in my opinion.

I recall about 15 years ago being in Turkey drinking some coffee outdoors at a cafe when a young man approached me and asked (he also sat down uninvited at my table) if I had that day read the Koran. I said no (which was not true because I had read the Koran placed in my hotel room) because I am a Buddhist. This is correct although I grew up in Roman Catholicism. He did not know what to make of this and obviously didn’t understand this ‘weird’ religion. I am doubtful I would be here today had I said I was a Christian.

A few years later, in Amsterdam, on the way to the Anne Frank House, I was pushed down, unexpectedly, to the ground by 2 young Arabs, maybe 14 years old. They were walking in the opposite direction and I did not get a clear look at them. Luckily, I fell into a plush chair placed on the grass by an outdoor beer garden owner. I laughed hysterically but my feelings are that this is a violent, aggressive religion that causes a good deal of trouble. In contrast, many older Muslims I met were wonderful to me; beware the young ones.

      Where is the moderator?

      • Sulio says:

Look closely to your ass. Moderation DO NOT mean censorship and cancel culture as many washed western brains think. We are free to explain our thoughts and to have attitude. Of you wish moderator GO TO US or Brussels. There is Kingdom of politicaly correct censorship, cancel culture and new speech (conform 1984 vocabulary)

  • OSF says:

Having spent three wonderful years in Prague – happy in part because of the confidence that this kind of thing doesn’t happen there – I am heartbroken about this.

  • Zandonai says:

These mass shootings are completely random and unpreventable. Make sure you have a written will no matter how old you are, and live everyday like it’s your last day on earth.

  • RPMS40 says:

At time of writing (9am GMT, 23/12), Ernest Blanc’s comment has 12 thumbs ups. Perhaps some are approving the act of redaction, I don’t know. But if 12 people think Blanc’s comment is on point, then SD is attracting more knuckle-headed bigotry than one would have hoped. Whatever one’s view of the effects of Islam around the world, there is absolutely no evidence that what happened in Prague yesterday was in any way inspired by Islamic, or any other form of, religious extremism.

I’m surprised that even a redacted version of Blanc’s comment passed the moderators, to be honest. The only reason I can think of for publishing it is to persuade the rest of us (with 12 exceptions, perhaps) not to take any notice of anything he says on any subject whatsoever.

  • Mr. Ron says:

It appears from accounts I have read that this shooting is not terrorist related and not related to Islam.

However, I still believe that Islam is essentially violent and one only has to read their own “Bible” the Koran, to reach this conclusion. By the way, it is poorly written. I have also been the victim of 3 attacks by such people: one is not described above. In the third, a man of about 30 dug his heels together into my heel. It hurt. I was riding to the airport in Istanbul on a train and was standing near my bags. I could tell it was not an accident by his actions. This was about 20 years ago.

I admit to being short, dark complexioned, and older. Many people think I am Jewish; I am not.

Many religions are the same as Islam: they encourage violence towards ‘outsiders’. That’s why some politicians are also so dangerous.
