Dear colleagues,
The Library of Congress By the People crowdsourced transcription program launches a new campaign drawn from the Music Division’s digital collections – “Leonard Bernstein: Writings By, From, and To” (https://crowd.loc.gov/campaigns/bernstein/). We’re releasing over 15,000 pages of collections material from the LC’s Leonard Bernstein collection (https://www.loc.gov/collections/leonard-bernstein/) for transcription, review, and tagging by volunteers on crowd.loc.gov. Volunteer-created transcriptions improve search, readability, and access to handwritten and typed documents on loc.gov for everyone, including people who are not fully sighted. To date, BtP contributors have transcribed over 700,000 pages of the Library’s digital collections.
The Bernstein campaign is split into eight thematic areas to help transcribers find materials they may be interested in engaging with:
1. Bernstein as student, teacher, lecturer
2. Family correspondence
3. Friends, Mentors, & Colleagues
4. Helen Coates correspondence
5. Individual musical works
6. Judaism and Social issues
7. Orchestras
8. Young People’s Concerts
Please share with colleagues, students, and friends. Of course, I’m glad to answer any questions you may have about the campaign or our Bernstein Collection. Happy transcribing!
