The enterprising exiled conductor Yalda Zamani has just formed a new chamber orchestra in Hamburg, where she teaches at the Hochschule.

The Chamber Orchestra Elbe will make its debut on Dec 12 at 7.30pm at the Elbphilharmonie with Mahan Esfahani as soloist in a new concerto by Gary Carpenter. Zamani will also premiere works by two Iranian women composers, Anahita Abbasi and Farzia Fallah.

It’s all last-minute and pre-Christmas, but with the Iranian regime responsible for so much suffering in the world today, it is heartening to hear of independent Iranian women who are making themselves heard.

Catch that concert if you can.

Nice shirt. Christmassy or River ‘n’ Sea?

    • Emil says:

My dude, what are the colours of the Iranian flag? Not everything is made for your political frames.

      • Anthony Sayer says:

No black in the Iranian flag, yet it’s the dominant colour of her shirt. Photo shoots are meticulously curated these days.

  • Zandonai says:

Is this a real orchestra or a folk Persian band?

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

Clever. Typically ‘Iranian launches’ is not followed by ‘orchestra’

    • Emil says:

Ah yes, I too love to paint a massive diaspora in exile through the actions of the regime from which they are exiled.

  • Kalki says:

Maybe she was in the women group giving a concert at Munich – local compositions middle east – last month at Prinzregententheater. Heard an interview in the car.
