Amid the audience applause for Beethoven’s 9th symphony, members of the San Francisco Sympphony wore blue spectacles in tribute to their emeritus music director Michael Tilson Thomas, who is battling brain cancer.

Blue is MTT’s current choice of eyewear.

Joshua Kosman’s review in the Chronicle was headlined ‘An ailing Michael Tilson Thomas makes an emotion-laden return to Davies Symphony Hall’.
