Houston Ballet undergoes Australian takeover
UncategorizedThe company has named an Australian conductor, Simon Thew (pictured), as its Music Director.
The Artistic Director of Houston Ballet is ex-Australian Ballet dancer and choreographer Stanton Welch.
So it goes.
This can only bode well for Houston. In my regular ballet-going days, the Australian Ballet was better than Houston ten times out of ten. Houston had a brilliant Opera company — their Porgy and Bess of the mid-70s remains one of the best things I have ever seen on a stage, in a world and a lifetime of stages — but the ballet company was merely a decent regional effort.
Down under men at work.
