I saw him win the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in June 2019 and have followed his career since: he is truly a remarkable musician. Much success to him!

Did you listen to the interview? Only a small part of that stipend can be used for personal reasons. It is primarily to encourage up and coming musicians to create bold musical/artistic projects
Or meeting his many admirers, perhaps? Why are big awards like this only for pianists?
The Gilmore Artist Award is $300,000 not $150,000.
