From the New York Post:

A violent criminal randomly shoved a 66-year-old Manhattan theater violinist to the ground, breaking the woman’s wrist in 10 places and potentially derailing her career, authorities said Friday.

Suspect Michael Allen, 34 — who has 15 prior arrests, seven convictions including for assault and an open case for allegedly spitting on and kicking a police officer — was freed without bail on supervised release by Judge Lumarie Maldonado Cruz at the suspect’s Manhattan Criminal Court arraignment Friday, officials said.

  • K says:

Freed without bail? Not saying that the suspect should hung, drawn and quartered, or that mob justice should apply, but could someone with NY criminal law expertise explain this?

    • Henry williams says:

K .like here in the UK. They do not like to keep
Them in prison it costs money

    • City resident says:

Post-covid, several US cities have gone lenient on crime such as assault, theft, shoplifting, car hacking, drugs, etc. Primarily liberal, Democratic mayors and district attorneys. Google San Francisco or Chicago for more examples. No common sense allowed….

    • E Rand says:

After 15 priors, tell me why he SHOULDN’T be hung, drawn and quartered, or why mob justice shouldn’t remove him from the population?

      • orchestra musician says:

Because the US is supposed to be a civilized country, although the orange turd , his cronies, and his moronic supporters want to change that.

        • The View from America says:

          It’s all Donald Trump’s fault.

          Or Joe Biden’s.

        • E Rand says:

Look where all of your “civilized country” policy is getting you. Mobs run the streets, and the most progressive cities are the least livable. There’s no hope for you if you can’t see the need for a course correct.

    • PaulD says:

New York’s elected officials decided that cash bail is racist and discriminates against the poor. As such, bail for misdemeanors, including misdemeanor assault, was eliminated.

Judges have the discretion of imposing bail on habitual offenders. Of course, if the judge believes that bail is racist or discriminatory, then you have what we’ve got here.

New York is being crucified on a cross of social justice.

      1. BLM
      2. Defund The Police
      3. Liberal Judges Gone Woke

      And, as always:

The Merry Voters of New York.

Please, just do not expect different results, when voting, again, the way you always do. Or be surprised, or upset.

  • Rob Keeley says:

Awful. another victim of the insane failed policies of the far Left Democrats. There’ll be lots more.

  • nosema says:

    Released without bail.
    Supervised release…

    And while yer at it
    Defund the Police!!
Down the toilet ye all go

  • E Rand says:

15 priors. But the Soros DA’s (and the idiot Democrats who vote for them) put them right back on the streets.

I love seeing people get what they vote for.

  • Guest says:

As a fellow string player who also broke my wrist- albeit in only two different places- it took well over a year and multiple surgeries to completely recover from my injuries. I cannot imagine having ten breaks- not only from the standpoint of recovering one’s playing career, but also the ability to return to performing the tasks of everyday living.
I am truly sorry for her misfortune, and I hope that she makes a complete recovery.

    • Susan Bradley says:

I broke my left wrist in 17 places, falling off a horse. I had just changed my major study at music college from tuba to double bass, as I had been filling in in the orchestra on bass anyway. Two days after I got approval to change to double bass, I broke my wrist. I did attempt playing, even experimented with LH bowing: too frustrating, so back to the tuba for me! I wish the lady well, as it could be a challenging recovery period.

  • zayin says:

    Presumption of innocence.

I like how the readers here get all legalistic and lawyerly when it comes to those accused of sexual assault, but forgets it when it comes to allegations of another other type of assault.

The man, like you and me, is innocent until found guilty after trial and after all appeals.

    • Helen says:

Presumption of innocence is important (although it clearly didn’t apply to Gardiner on this site).

However, must we also assume that this unfortunate violinist’s wrist is not broken in 10 places until the trial verdict?

    • John kelly says:

Trust me, with that rap sheet, he’s guilty as charged. Alvin Bragg has a lot to answer for (and I don’t mean the case against Trump). And I am as Blue a voter as you will find. New York has this all so wrong.

      • JJC says:

Well John, you might consider how your blue votes have brought us to this insufferable place. Of course, we live in a one party town where there is no one else to vote for and thus no leverage. And under the dictatorship of the blues, life here has become unbearable. Thanks.

    • Michael says:

So far as the accused’s progress in the legal system is concerned, clearly he cannot be found guilty and sentenced until a court decision is made. Given all the evidence we have, are you saying that you know that this man did not assault the lady? Was it a case of mistaken identity perhaps?

  • Christopher Brooks says:

The perp should be locked up for the rest of his life not let free to attack someone else.

    • Henry williams says:

I do not know but in the UK. Prisoners have
Good food. Vegan. Vegetarian. Halal. Kosher.
This costs the tax payer money.

  • Curvy Honk Glove says:

The American justice system is systemically racist! De-fund the police NOW!

  • Margaret Koscielny says:

“Freed without Bail” caught my eye. How could such a violent person be allowed back on the streets and without posting Bail? The poor woman he attacked is, still, potentially in danger with him walking around, unfettered by any restraint!

  • Alank says:

Only when the the upper East Side elites experience the consequences of their own virtue signaling will there be a reversal of these moronic policies. But with doormen to protect their properties and taxis and private cars to transport them and private schools to educate their children change will not come soon They could not care less about crime decimating the poor and the broken wrist of a theatre violinist Better to demonstrate your moral virtues by voting for Alvin Bragg who will prevent Trump form being the next dictator far more important than keeping a thug off the streets of NYC

  • Stubby says:

Actually, being hung, drawn and quartered sounds about right to me.

  • City person says:

I am surprised that they actually arrested somebody. There are incidents like this every day in New York where nobody is arrested.

  • Zarathusa says:

Yet another failure of the overworked and basically un-just judicial system! Based on his long rapsheet and numerous convictions, this dangerous predator should have been institutionalized long ago and off the streets of NYC!

  • just saying says:

Stuff like this makes me so happy I left NYC after 10 years. After awhile you have to ask yourself if the so-called “benefits” of living in NYC are worth it.

    • Max Raimi says:

While I have learned that it is a fool’s errand to enlist actual data in arguments with people on the right, still there is this: https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/worlds-safest-cities-travel-nyc/
NYC is actually among the safest big cities in the country and even the world. What happened to the violinist is certainly a tragedy, and the perpetrator is vile and certainly should not have slipped through the cracks. But the whole “Woke Liberals Have Turned NYC Into a Dystopian Hellhole” narrative all the right wing warriors wish to propagate in these threads is simply not in accordance with reality.

      • The View from America says:

        lol

      • JJC says:

Max, CBS news? Really? No agenda there I’m sure. Figures lie and liars figure. Things have changed here very fast and are plummeting to new lows every day. We don’t recognize our own neighborhoods anymore, so inundated have they become with strange, hostile and violent people who wreak havoc everywhere. Always enjoyed your company back in the day Max, when we played together here in NYC, but it just isn’t the same place anymore and it won’t do to pretend that it is.

      • Sam's Hot Car Lot says:

        Hi Max,

I respect you enormously because you’re one of the few orchestral musicians who appreciates Bruckner.

However, on this issue, you conveniently neglected to mention that the report you linked to is from 2021. The New York Times (which I think most liberals still respect) reported that crime in NYC increased by 22% in 2022.

  • Sammy says:

I don’t know who was the victim. But I’d like to just say that before we make this a nasty political fight we should just wish her a quick and easy recovery. There are bad people everywhere and things like this happen often but whatever it is we should first always wish the best for the victim.

  • Yuri K says:

Best comment in NYP: “C’mon folks its only 15 prior arrests, only 7 for assault. Let’s not rush to judgement.”

  • Fritz Chrysler says:

It’s Trumps fault! Had he not lost the 2020 election, crime in democrat-run cities would be down and DAs would be doing their real jobs in prosecuting criminals, not interfering with the 2024 presidential election.

    • Singeril says:

Yup…just think, had Trump won in 2020, nobody would be worried about him in 2024. Nobody would know what shape the country would be in had he won…but we’d be done with him.

    • John kelly says:

According to Trump, he DID win the election……………..

  • CBR says:

So nothing happened to the criminal. This is the New New York. Where criminals reign supreme. Why? Democrats.

  • Mick the Knife says:

NYC is quickly becoming a crime capital again due to a mayor and a district attorney who simply don’t care about anything other than playing politics.

  • Peter P. says:

Spidey senses are tingling. Kansas City tie in inbound!

  • Karden says:

Never sure if self-characterizing liberals or self-identifying progressives, when they find themselves becoming indignant due to their political preferences being challenged by hard reality, simple truths or basic common sense, have much of a heart. Empathy or compassion without logic and ethics is not all that empathetic, not all that compassionate.
