Vesa Siren in the Helsingin Sanomat gives a throw-by-throw account of Santtu-Matias Rouvali’s food poisoning at the Savonlinna Festival with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.

Rouvali silences the audience’s applause and says that he conducted the concert with a stomach bug, which in his body sounded ‘about the same’ as the encore, a polka by Johann Strauss….

    One of your crazier headlines, Sir. Loved the link to the Finnish paper. Made matters much clearer. Pray tell, why is Gergiev mentioned in that paper? Was he ill, too?

    Two comments:
    the concert took place in Mikkeli (Finland)
    and
    I’d rather learn about the musical quality of the concert than about the conductor’ s vomiting.
