Maestro throws up between movements
OrchestrasVesa Siren in the Helsingin Sanomat gives a throw-by-throw account of Santtu-Matias Rouvali’s food poisoning at the Savonlinna Festival with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.
Rouvali silences the audience’s applause and says that he conducted the concert with a stomach bug, which in his body sounded ‘about the same’ as the encore, a polka by Johann Strauss….
Too much information?
Read on here.
It’s not clear that he vomited between movements?
Would it have been worse if he had had a “movement” between movements???
Rouvalting story from the Salmonella Festival
À votre santtu!
Was it Belshazzar’s Feast?
What would we do without this throwing up in the gutter journalism?
Food for thought indeed.
The Strauss encore was Donner und Blitzen. Thankfully not D & V.
a bad kebab no doubt
(if you know, you know)
Understandable if he was accompanying Lang Lang.
Or Magendarmlena Kotzena.
One of your crazier headlines, Sir. Loved the link to the Finnish paper. Made matters much clearer. Pray tell, why is Gergiev mentioned in that paper? Was he ill, too?
Two comments:
the concert took place in Mikkeli (Finland)
and
I’d rather learn about the musical quality of the concert than about the conductor’ s vomiting.
What a trooper. The show must go on. I couldn’t have done it in a million years!!
