A misfortune for the rising British tenor:

We regret to inform you that tenor Freddie De Tommaso will not be able to perform his American debut as Cavaradossi in TOSCA tonight due to illness. We anticipate he will perform the remainder of the run from August 12 through August 26.

On a high note, we are thrilled to announce that Jonathan Burton will make his Santa Fe Opera debut tonight as Cavaradossi.

Freddie speaks like Michael Caine, sings like Pavarotti.

    He’s the real thing.

What’s he doing wasting his time at Santa Fe when he should be making his American debut at the Met to a sold out run?

I mean he’s done La Scala… Gelbs, wake up!

    • Stephen Owades says:

Santa Fe Opera is a major-league operation that performs in the summer, while the Met does not have a summer season at all. Would you begrudge a singer appearing at Glyndebourne rather than Covent Garden?

    • david hilton says:

He’s singing at Santa Fe because they’re open in August, while the Met is closed.

    • Sonicsinfonia says:

He sings and sounds absolutely nothing like Pavarotti. Nothing wrong with Santa Fe, especially when the Met isn’t even performing. The date was probably fixed 2-3 years ago.

    • Jeff says:

      Hahaha, sold out Met….. hahahahaha

    • Sanity says:

He’s being vastly overbooked and that, combined with a poor technique, makes him very vulnerable.

  • Tammo Schurr says:

Mmm….becoming a bit of a pattern this. Presumably his agent and Decca pushing him way too far too soon. Clearly the real deal but other fine voices have fallen away through being abused through the demands of their commercial partners.
