The former railways station at Bobigny, from which 22,500 men, women and children were sent to the Auschwitz death camp in 1943-44 by French collaboration police under German command, has been converted into a memorial site.

The memorial will be inaugurated this afternoon by Hélios Azoulay and the Ensemble de Musique Incidentale.

It is discomforting that Marine Le Pen received 41.5% of the vote in the run off elections,. She has distanced herself from her father’s anti-Semitism, including elements of Holocaust denial, but her party, National Rally, still maintains close links to far-right groups. In Germany, the far-right AfD is polling at 19% of the electorate. The Meloni government in Italy is a direct descendent of Mussolini. It is now almost certain that Trump will be the Republican nominee and with backers far more motivated than the weary and divided Democrats.

Believe me, most Democrats, especially women, are not at all divided, if perhaps weary. We see what is ahead if any GQP candidate wins the election, it’s a disaster. We are the majority, not the right wing loonies. They may be motivated and loud, but they are a decided minority of voters. We are VERY alarmed, and motivated.

The most modern and pernicious ideologies were formulated in French academies; this led directly to woke-ism. Did you not think there was going to be a massive push-back??!!

      You weren’t paying attention.

A better memorial would be to pay reparations to all the descendants, however distant, of these victims, by liquidating the SNCF, the French national rail system, that operated these death trains for profit.

With serious fascism on the rise in Europe and in the Americas, is it only a matter of time before the world suffers the next “holocaust”?

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

You have had cultural fascism in the USA – and it has metastasized beyond – for the last several years. Today the result is that you cannot speak unless you iterate the nostrums and cultural cliches that go along with woke-ism. The difference between the 1930s and 1940s was the uniforms and the killing of the Jews. But it’s all part of the same continuum. One major difference is that Americans THINK they’re free.

The French were even greater anti-Semites than the Germans.
