The coming season will be Ermanno Florio’s last at the head of Houston Ballet, having conducted every production for 32 years.

Born in Carapelle, Italy, in March 1954, Florio was raised in Canada and trained with Andrew Davis.

He was conductor of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra from 1983 to 1995 and music director of the National Ballet of Canada from 1985 to 1989.

    Manny, you can’t just walk away from such an illustrious career like that after 32 years (and then some)…you have to pirouette!!! Enjoy the golfing, the fishing, and the relaxing! You certainly earned it!

    It has been a privilege working with the Maestro for these past 32 years. He knows how to make the orchestra sound it’s best while being attentive to the needs of the stage.

    Thirty-two years is indeed impressive, but just image the Nutcracker count!
