The Czech chorusmaster Ivan Sedláček, teacher of  Theory and Practice of Children’s Choir Management at the conservatory in Brno, has died at the age of 91.

Among those who benefited from his teaching were mezzo-sopranos Magdalena Kožená and Marika Žáková, tenor Pavel Černoch , soprano Veronika Hajnová-Fialová and conductors Milan Kaňák, Pavel Koňárek, Jakub Klecker and Jaroslav Kyzlink.

He operated for much of his career under severe restraints, being prevented by Communist officials from teaching sacred liturgy.

No one is stopping Ivan from teaching sacred music now! I understand he’s got an eternal gig conducting the heavenly choir consisting of the most angelic voices ever assembled! Congratulations! Suffering does pay off!
