Message from the Russian-born pianist:

In June 2021 I performed in Odessa, and my visit there became one of the greatest impressions in my life. I was truly astonished by the beauty and hospitality of this amazing city which gave to the world Benno Moiseiwitsch, Nathan Milstein, David Oistrakh, Shura Cherkassky, Emil Gilels and many other great people, musicians and non-musicians.
Now the people there are on the edge of being destroyed to pebbles. Every night Russian armed forces shell Odessa with numerous kinds of missiles, aiming at ports infrastructure, cultural premises, civil houses and churches. They even bomb Odessa’s Historic Centre which is one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
They need our help crucially. It’s a question of saving lives, saving a peaceful European city from being destroyed.
Ukraine catastrophically lacks air defense systems and all kinds of weapons which can protect their cities. And they are needed in Ukraine today! In half a year time there might be no Odessa and nothing to protect. And the moment they ruin Ukraine, other European countries will be in danger as well.
Please, help Ukraine to defend itself, its people and its beautiful cities! Every day I send money by PayPal to g.mohnenko@gmail.com; Gennady Mohnenko is a chaplain in the Ukrainian army. Please, join me, and let’s save Odessa together!

Evgeny is absolutely correct — the entire rational world has the responsibility of insuring the survival of Ukraine as the ultimate humanitarian commitment. What has been happening in Ukraine is really not a “war” — it is an absolute beat-down by Russia! Unless and until Ukraine has the capacity and ability to inflict the kind of devastation on Russian municipal targets that Ukraine has one-sidedly endured, Russia will never be held accountable!

By sending more guns and money to a notoriously corrupted state, until a nuclear power led by Putin acknowledges defeat? Is that what saved the world from WW3 against the Soviet Union?

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was cancelled after revealing it was essentially the US which blocked the peace talks. That was a year, two, possibly soon a decade ago…

The US saving the free world, again, eh…

  • Hermann Abendroth says:

    Bravo

  • Wise Guy says:

Without a doubt, the Ukrainian people are tragically the victims here, and they deserve the world’s support and compassion. However, it’s the US and NATO using Ukraine as a proxy to try to undermine Russia and to institute regime change. There was a peace deal on the table by the second week that even the vastly corrupt Zelinsky would have accepted if not for the US stepping in via Boris Johnson and making them enter in to a war that they were never going to win.
I take Kissin’s appeal as being for the people, not the corrupt regime that allowed this to happen. He’s too smart to pretend Ukraine has always been defined by 2022 borders.

  • Powell says:

Wise Guy. Does Putin actually pay you to write this crap?

  • Lester Wilson says:

Sviatoslav Richter should surely be added to the list

  • Ethan says:

Are you kidding? Where is richter?
